Black Velvet 67 - Forever The Sickest Kids

A bit of catching up as I haven't been on here forever...
Issue 67 of Black Velvet Magazine is out now and includes:
The following interviews:
Forever The Sickest Kids talk about how criticism makes you stronger, how they’re a brotherhood that can confide in each other, how Austin and Jonathan may start their own charity and how Marc got taught to blow up and flex after watching a strongest man competition.
Alter Bridge’s Brian Marshall chats about band struggles and being reawakened, how having side projects makes them happier, the Creed vs Alter Bridge fan war and how guests steal the night lights in his hotel in Costa Rica.
Sum 41’s Stevo and Cone talk about how Stevo cried while watching Shrek III, how the next album has a more ‘personal sort of way to it’, how Cone’s fave Journey song is ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’ and how Stevo has zero tolerance for smelly shoes on tables. Or anti-bacterial soap.
Mayday Parade’s Derek Sanders tells us what he most loves about Mayday Parade, what he most loves about his bandmates, which celebs he’d love to love Mayday Parade and what he loves but everyone else in the band hates.
Anberlin's Nathan Young and Christian McAlhaney chat about adding bongos to ‘Dark In The Way, Light Is A Place’, why the kids of today should be angry, how everyone’s got a dark or secret side and how they’d add a permanent sixth member if they had more money.
Rob Zombie’s Piggy D tells us how thinks pop music is more exciting than rock n’ roll these days, how Rob Zombie is taking more risks, how he thinks the 12 song album is dead and how he wouldn’t want to live in a house with Justin Bieber (or Lady Gaga).
There For Tomorrow’s Maika Maile tells us how the band wants to bring back truth to music and kill out the over-produced, no-talent stuff of the 2000s, how he was a shy child often playing guitar in the corner, how he connected and found solace with Kid Cutty and how losing things is a lot harder than gaining things.
Twenty Twenty tell us how their fans inspire them, what strange meetings they’ve had with fans, which toys they were fans of as a kid and if they had to spend a day with a fan what they’d do.
Destine chat about covering Jay Sean’s ‘Down’, how they’re living their teenage dreams, how they try to be perfectionists at all times, and how they’d like to have a bulldozer with their logo on.
Bowling For Soup’s Eric Chandler talks about how working together as a band for years makes you grateful for what you have, how the greatest years of his life were when he and Jaret were homeless and living in the band’s van, how interviewing a popular singer for his school newspaper when he was 12 was one of the coolest things that ever happened to him and how they have a thing for blowing up brand new equipment.
Templeton Pek talk about how everyone has scratches and scars, how they disrespected the nudist spa in Austria, how everyone’s full of bulls**t unless they prove otherwise and how playing live always makes them happy.
The Dollyrots chat about how they once had a smelly pants contest, how Luis came up with a line for ‘Rock Control’ while in the bathroom, how they loved the UK audiences clapping over their heads and how it’s dangerous being in a three-piece band.
Concert reviews including Bowling For Soup @ Birmingham Academy, Less Than Jake @ Nottingham Rock City & the Eastpak Antidote Tour @ Birmingham Academy, Taste Of Chaos @ Nottingham Trent FM Arena, Manic Street Preachers @ Birmingham Academy & Octane OK @ Birmingham Academy 3.
Tons of album, single and EP reviews of the likes of Bon Jovi, Manic Street Preachers, Goo Goo Dolls, My Chemical Romance, Mexicolas, Lonely The Brave, My Son The Bum, The Erotics, Good Charlotte, Destine, Trapt, The Crave, Templeton Pek & heaps more.
Ryan Burnett of The Crave writes this issue's 'A (Musical) Note From...' column.
'Me, Me, Me & My Rock CV' - If you have a job in the music industry you get to tell us what you do and why you do it. This issue we feature music manager Eddie Bull.
Free Octane OK poster (while stocks last).
All the usuals such as Zine Reviews, Books/DVDs & Supersonic Future Superstars (featuring Town, Day Of The Sirens and The Liaison).
Snapping up the rest of the space with their ads are: My Son The Bum, Cassidy Haley, The Erotics, Straight Razor Angels, Inferno & Luminous Frenzy.

My photo on ABC
I just spotted (surprisingly) one of the photos that I've taken on ABC. How crazy is it to have a photo used on ABC's TV news station? It's ironic that the first time one of my pix is used it's for a sad situation - ie. the latest report on Madina Lake's Matthew Leone (who was beaten unconscious when he saw a domestic dispute in the street and tried to help). Thankfully since this report was aired Nathan has blogged that he feels Matthew is 'out of the woods'. Fingers crossed that Matthew just keeps getting better now.
If you watch this news report, my photo of Matthew is the first one shown:
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/video?id=7570181
Another live photo of Matthew that I've taken was used in Through The Pain's promo video for their benefit shows for Matthew.
My pic is the last one in the vid (with blue background):
I'm happy that my photos are being used to represent such a great person and hero like Matthew.
Get better soon Matthew!
